Getting your kids involved this Thanksgiving

Getting your kids involved this Thanksgiving

“It isn’t what you have in your pocket that makes you thankful, but what you have in your heart.” - Unknown

Thanksgiving is a time for families to spend quality time together and make new memories. Get your kids excited about Thanksgiving with our simple suggestions.

1. Donate to those in need.

Thanksgiving is a time for giving back. Teach your child about giving back to your community by donating to a cause that's close to your heart. This Thanksgiving, have your child help by finding clothes to donate, collecting nonperishable foods or even volunteering their time.

Need some inspiration for how to give back? Check out are article by people.com: How to Give Thanks and Celebrate Community This Thanksgiving...

2. Enlist some help in the kitchen.

There are so many things your kids can help you with in the kitchen as you're preparing Thanksgiving dinner:

  • Have them make create placeholder nametags for your guests.
  • Get their help in setting the table.
  • Ask your child to help pick out their favorite dessert and name it after them (i.e. Ben's Famous Apple Pie).

Or need help keeping your kids busy while you focus on Thanksgiving prep? That's fine too. Here are some ways to keep your little ones busy while you do the cooking: 10 Ways to Keep Your Child Busy When Cooking Thanksgiving Dinner.

3. Create a Gratitude List together.

Teach your child the meaning of Thanksgiving by making a list of things you are thankful for. Let your child's imagination run wild as you brainstorm different things or people you're thankful for and why.

According to mindfulmazing.com, "Gratitude doesn’t just feel good, but it’s also good for us. Brain research shows that positive emotions are good for our bodies, minds, and brains. In other words: Feeling good has a gigantic impact on our well-being and life."

Keep little ones busy on Thanksgiving with some fun Thanksgiving activities. Many times kids are expected to sit politely at the table while the adults talk for hours on end. Help the children stay engaged with a Thanksgiving Activity.

5. Relax and Unwind after dinner

Before you rush to do the clean up, take the time to sit and relax together as a family. Chances are you're feeling a bit full, so make sure you have a Happi Tummi herbal waistband on hand.
